WORLD WINE GUYS' SIX STEPS TO TASTING WINE
Video: How to Taste Wine in 38 Seconds
1. SIGHT
Hold your glass against a white background. Whites will range from pale yellow to golden amber, while reds will run from light cherry red to deep inky purple.
2. SWIRL
Swirl the wine in the glass to aerate the wine and release more of the bouquet and aroma.
3. SMELL
Put your nose in the glass and inhale deeply. What do you smell? Citrus, flowers, stone fruits, earth, dried cherry, fresh blackberries, chocolate?
4. SIP
Take a sip of the wine and let it linger in your mouth for a few moments. Think about what you taste. Is it sweet or dry? What fruits do you taste?
5. SWALLOW
Actually drink the wine, and experience the sensations of taste and smell on your post-palate. How can you describe the finish?
6. SAVOR
Sit back for a moment and enjoy the wine. Before the conversation drifts back to other ideas, take this opportunity to discuss your impressions while the flavors are still fresh in your mouth.
CHEERS,
